The Community of Practice has been established by the Chief Nursing Office at the World Health Organization.

It is a virtual community where nurses and midwives around the world can meet, share evidence and practice, discuss, inform and support one another in order to contribute to building sustainable health systems.

It will offer forums for discussion and learning with experts about issues that matter to nursing, midwifery and to the health of our communities. It has 3 main objectives:

  • To support an international community of nurses and midwives to build strategies towards achieving universal health coverage
  • To develop compassionate leaders who are powerful and inspirational agents for change
  • To create opportunities to develop sustainable high quality health care systems that are evidence based and data driven

The vision is better health for all, by building a vibrant community where nurses and midwives are inspired and motivated to collaborate, engage and work together in order to meet the World Health Organization triple billion targets by 2030.

The Community of Practice is governed by a Steering Group made up of global experts in nursing and midwifery. Management of the community is undertaken by a secretariat within the Chief Nursing Office, WHO HQ, Geneva.
